Meet Jeanie Fair: Hands-On Education's Creative Director & Co-Founder

A warm welcome!

Hands-On Education was created to bring the English curriculum to life for primary school children and home educating families through practical, hands-on activities. As a mum to Teddy (born 2014) and Harry (born 2016), my home education journey began with excitement—and a realisation that most resources I found relied heavily on sitting and writing. Teddy, starting Year 1 as a summer-born five-year-old, struggled with pencil grip, so I sought ways for him to build subject knowledge through active engagement rather than written tasks. Harry started Reception at a more typical age, inspired by his older brother, and their different progress has shaped our approach.

With a background as a qualified dance teacher across KS1 to A-Level, and a practical understanding of the National Curriculum, I’m committed to developing activities that get children building, creating, designing, exploring, and playing. Everything on Hands-On Education aligns to curriculum standards, and activities are open-ended—there’s no wrong way to try. I hope you enjoy exploring our resources and blog posts on the topics that matter to our family and yours.
