Teaching Tips +
The Race to 1,000 activity works well as a two-player game, making it ideal for paired work or a maths morning challenge. The Written Addition and Written Subtraction lessons work best taught in sequence and can be extended using the column model sheet as a visual scaffold. Dice Numbers is a flexible activity — vary the number of dice to differentiate for different abilities. The Estimate and Check lesson pairs well with a class discussion about when estimation is useful in real life. Story Problems makes an excellent end-of-unit assessment activity.
